Get more value from the cloud (and skip to the good part)
Jun 16, 2022
Approximately 30% of the world’s data volume is generated by healthcare, and it is growing exponentially at a faster rate than any other industry.
On the surface this is incredibly exciting – we know data has the power to unlock insights that will lead us to streamlined patient experiences, reduced costs, improved outcomes, and you know, fix all the things in healthcare. But once you scratch even slightly beneath the surface the complexity and cost to make all that data useful is overwhelming. Reconciling mountains of data between siloed systems and aging protocols has quickly become one of healthcare’s biggest challenges, crushing the IT departments of even the most sophisticated healthcare organizations.
Skip data overwhelm with FHIR and the Cloud
But, as usual, there is hope! HL7® FHIR® is a modern healthcare standard that addresses healthcare’s data challenges with an open, flexible interoperability protocol. Redox spent last week at HL7® FHIR® DevDays, and it was exciting to see the global collaboration that is occurring and how far FHIR® has come in the last decade. Widespread adoption across healthcare may not occur until 2024, but FHIR® is already the default standard for getting healthcare data into a growing universe of cloud-native analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence technologies – the tools that will allow us to make sense of all that data and skip to the good part, the fixing healthcare part.
While FHIR adoption is certainly heating up, and many electronic health records (EHRs) have implemented FHIR APIs for patient access, these APIs offer limited capability. Most currently available FHIR APIs do not enable practical interoperability for the many use cases that require real-time, on-demand, bi-directional exchange (e.g. scheduling). Establishing useful FHIR data exchange from EHRs and other systems of record with cloud platforms is a time-consuming and expensive hurdle for many organizations to overcome. Enter, Redox.
Skip even faster with Redox
Redox for Cloud is a full suite of cloud adapters, built in partnership with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Our adapters can translate virtually any clinical or administrative protocol (HL7v2, C-CDA, X12, etc.) to FHIR and get it flowing into the cloud in just weeks, significantly reducing the time and cost associated with any other FHIR translation alternative. And, once the data is flowing, we maintain the connections, reducing ongoing integration complexity and maintenance.
